Out of a salary of Rs 20,000+ we cannot pay even Rs 700 for income tax and look out for tax saving mutual funds and we speak of patriotism. We compromise with everything. We deteriorated the system by working around it. How many of us would stand in the queue of a passport office if we have a back door option? As Mukthar Abbas Naqvi rightfully mentioned, a lady dressed up as if she was on the fashion ramp(I wholeheartedly agree to the view that it was her right to dress the way she liked) came out and was shouting against the politicians in front of camera and it seemed to me as a mere show off and publicity stunt because, when our commandos were fighting face to face with terrorists, she could have turned up in an attire that would have complied with the situation and that too with less make up(It might have taken her one hour to prepare for the TV appearance), if she were so much concerned about the nation. The media went populist and refracted Naqvi's statement and made him a nymphomaniac in front of the public(This was what the reporter said: Sharm aathi hai aisi nethaon par jo auraton ke hoton ke lipstick ko dekhe jab unko unke aansoo dekhna chaahiye tha) when what he meant was totally different.
The media was so much focussed on the commercial aspect and they celebrated the terror attack and made celebrities out of terrorists. They repeatedly broadcasted the attack with heavy metal rock songs in the background as if what going on was the climax scene of a Schwarzenegger movie. They also focussed on the responses of bollywood actors who have been videoed along with Dawood Ibrahim at the VIP pavillion during the Sharjah cricket matches. The media knew how to capitalize on the nationalist sentiments that would arise after a terror attack. And thanks to us they made good money out of it. I am not saying that they should not have covered it or should not have given enough importance to it. I just wanted them to be reasonable in their presentation and to be far more professional.
Why are we going after the blood of our politicians? As they say in RDB, leaders have not fallen from the skies. They come from among us. They are the representation of the collective mindset of the people. Let us not forget that it is not a dictatorship in power. We have a democratically elected government. Who elected these leaders four years ago? When we have universal adult franchise we should use it with responsibility. Now we are reaping for what we sowed.
We should be able to produce good leaders and bring them to power. Instead of that what do we keep in mind when we go to the polling booth? We think of caste, state, political parties, regionalism, the personal benefit if any particular candidate close to us is getting elected, extend of reservation he/she can bring to our community. The million dollar question is, "Are we able to replace this system either through ballot or through revolution?". Bomb phatne ke baad ke ek hafthe ki desh prem aur waapas phir apne ghar. Everyone wants an MBA in finance and a corporate job. Money and selfishness. Does any one want to be a police man here? When I said I wanted to join Airforce as an engineer my mother tried to stop me(Later I was rejected because of acute myopia) now when she was rendering patriotism I had to argue with her. She is not the only mother like that. She is just one among the 110 crore Indians. Everyone wants India to be developed by 2020. Development is not what the sensex shows. Go to the outskirts of the nation, beyond the urban boundaries. Millions toil out in the sun so that we can eat our food in air conditioned rooms and say, "Dekho darling politicians ne kya haal kar diya hai desh ka." Mera Bharat is definitely not mahaan at the moment. If we want to live in a great nation let us be worthy citizen of it. As a philosopher of the great French revolution said,"Every nation, every people, is ruled by the government that it deserves."
